Mexican Summer Releases New Autre Ne Veut & Fennesz Track Celebrates Five Year Anniversary with Deluxe Hardcover Book, Mexican Summer: Five Years out December 9th

Today Mexican Summer is excited to share “Alive,” a new collaboration from Autre Ne Veut and Christian Fennesz, available to stream here. Arthur Ashin, the creative force behind Autre Ne Veut and this year’s stand out avant-garde R&B album Anxiety, approached Mexican Summer with electronic music composer Christian Fennesz at the top of a dream list of collaborators for his Five Years contribution. The two artists met at Fennesz’s Vienna studio for two days of freeform construction during their respectively busy tour schedules and came out the other side with the future ballad “Alive.”

The track is taken from the special Mexican Summer: Five Years book, which is out December 9th, 2013. The book contains a 10” record of new and unique collaborations from Bay Of Pigs (Spiritualized, Soldiers of Fortune, and Neil Hagerty,) Jorge Elbrose (Jorge Elbrecht and Ariel Pink), Quilt and Bobb Trimble, and The Lonely Sailor and Renée Mendoza Haran (members of Total Control, Lace Curtain & Ashrae Fax,) and the aforementioned Autre Ne Veut and Fennesz collaboration. With no digital component, the first and last pressing of this 10” is only available with the book.

Designed by longtime collaborator Dan Schechter, Mexican Summer: Five Years features an embossed cloth cover, craft paper wrap, three interior paper stocks and an integrated 10” sleeve. The 11”x11” hardcover book, coming in at 256 pages, is limited to a one-time edition of 1,000 copies, and includes unique and unseen art and ephemera, photos and written contributions from a host of Mexican Summer artists.

Mexican Summer: Five Years is the culmination of five great years for the Brooklyn-based label with well over 100 releases, including records by artists such as Best Coast, Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, Washed Out, Kurt Vile, Peaking Lights, Oneohtrix Point Never, as well as reissues from Robert Lester Folsom and Linda Perhacs.

The label’s anniversary was already celebrated earlier this fall with a two-day blowout festival in Red Hook, Brooklyn, featuring performances from Spiritualized, Ariel Pink, No Joy, Tamaryn, The Fresh & Onlys, Connan Mockasin, Lansing-Dreiden, Linda Perhacs and more of the Mexican Summer family. Both the book and the festival have served to highlight a truly innovative and celebrated label, one that will continue to surprise and excite listeners for at least another five more years.
