audiobooks Announce New EP Gulliver
David Wrench and Evangeline Ling, the duo behind audiobooks, have announced their new EP, Gulliver, will arrive on April 12 via Heavenly Recordings. Ahead of the album’s release, the band have shared lead single “Burnt Pictures” featuring OneDa. Filmed on the slate grey Ogwen Beach on a cold Welsh winter weekend, the video for “Burnt Pictures” explores trying to erase memories. Pictures etched into the mind that won’t easily burn away. The clip was directed by David’s eldest son Louis and features his youngest child Auberon. Gulliver EP follows their 2021’s Astro Tough LP and the band’s 2018 debut, “Now! In a Minute”.
“Burnt Pictures is unlike anything we’ve written before,” audiobooks say. “When we toured for Astro Tough we took along the brilliant OneDa to open for some of the shows. We were playing Burnt Pictures as part of the set to try and explore different structures, and we invited up OneDa to freestyle with us, and it was exactly what the track was missing.”
David adds: “Inspiration for the track came from 60’s Czech New Wave Cinema classic ‘Daises’ which I put on silently on a screen in the studio while Evangeline improvised lyrics to it.”
Multi-instrumentalist and producer/mixer David Wrench (Frank Ocean, the xx, Caribou, David Byrne, Arlo Parks, Glass Animals, and Goldfrapp) is as comfortable unleashing monolithic psychedelic wig-outs and heavy dub-driven monsters as he is crafting irresistible synth-pop bangers. Writer, vocalist and visual artist Evangeline Ling is as chameleonic as she is charismatic, able to jump from detachment to rawness to aggression to tenderness to hilarity to toe-curling awkwardness, often within the same song. Evangeline Ling paints all the audiobooks artwork and she has her first solo exhibition at a.SQUIRE gallery in Shoreditch, London from February 25 to April 8.
