In Norah Jones Is Playing Along, latest podcat Episode 35, Jones’ special guest is Arooj Aftab. Their conversation touches on their evolving relationship with music, and the realities of working as a musician. Recorded on February 25, 2026, the episode showcases songs from both of their catalogs, a new unreleased track, and a take on the Billie Eilish song “What Was I Made For?”

Aftab joins guests that includes internationally renowned concert pianist Lang Lang; multi-GRAMMY-winning singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer St. Vincent (Annie Clark), Dave Grohl, John Legend and more. In each episode, Jones’ sits down with a different guest for impromptu musical collaborations and candid conversation.

Norah Jones is Playing Along is just one of many collaborations Aftab has added to her repertoire recently. She and Beck covered “Lilac Wine” for Help(2), a compilation curated by War Child UK, and she will appear on Bonobo’s upcoming album Distance in Static. For Riz Ahmed’s Amazon series Bait, Aftab cut a recording of the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” in Urdu. Additionally, later this summer, she will open for select dates on St. Vincent’s orchestral tour.

In 2024, she released her fourth solo album, Night Reign (Verve), to universal acclaim, earning a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Jazz Album, while the song “Raat Ki Rani” was tapped for Best Global Music Performance. Night Reign’s predecessor, Vulture Prince, ushered Aftab into the cultural zeitgeist, including a place on President Barack Obama’s Summer 2021 playlist. Recognition for the record propelled her to a Best New Artist Grammy nomination in 2022 and a win for the song “Mohabbat.” Over the last few years, Aftab has appeared at numerous international festivals including Primavera, Glastonbury, and more.
