LA Priest releases his new EP La Fusion, featuring new single “Apple,” mixed by Alan Braxe. “Apple” is lyrically otherworldly, “a pep talk from an alien,” and harks back to the stories of spirits and imaginations of life on the ocean bed that were prevalent throughout Fase Luna, his 2023 album. “I wanted it to be enlightening even if the words don’t seem to make sense.” says Sam.

La Fusion was written towards the tail-end of Eastgate’s time living in the Costa Rican jungle where he also wrote the bulk of Fase Luna and recorded upon his return in his garden shed studio in Wales using his handmade drum machine, GENE. Where Fase Luna offered a raw and unfiltered ticket to another world, La Fusion was written at a time when Sam, although happy in the solace of seclusion, was simultaneously aware that his reconnection with wide-society was on the horizons.

“You cannot blend fusion with something else,” Sam reflects on his return. “Fusion itself is the blending of realities. These are ideas I couldn’t have recorded in the jungle. Maybe they are metropolis songs. I took ideas written outside looking inward and finished them inside thinking outward.”

Formerly known as Sam Dust, LA Priest and L.A. Priest, Sam Eastgate has built a reputation as a subversive, unpredictable musician, consistently innovating over the course of his work with his now defunct breakout band Late Of The Pier, his cherished Soft Hair collaboration with Connan Mockasin as well as his solo work under LA Priest. As well as releasing his album Fase Luna.
