thomTide, recently returned with their new single “albatrossAlbatross.” thomTide elaborates, “I wanted this song to sound like you are flying, from the perspective of the albatross bird. It represents an albatross, like a persistent problem as well. In the song, people on the water are straying off course and ignoring this bird, and find themselves in turbulent seas. I suggest that if they address the bird it can guide them back on course, like confronting a problem as well.”

Thomas is a name meaning twin, and also happens to be the middle name shared by thomTide founder Lee Rutledge and Dominique Mills, the visual artist behind the project.

Rutledge comes from a lineage of teachers which has shaped his values, his passion for learning both inside and outside the classroom, and his creativity in more ways he can count. His first stint in music began with composing classical style pieces and he later applied that theory and storytelling to more popular styles, establishing his roots in production.

Lee found he was craving more intimacy and personal involvement in his music and thus thomTide was born. “So much happens and changes in the world all the time, and I wanted a project that was just as free and fluid,” he shares. “thomTide is inspired by everything that has happened to me and the world recently and will be inspired by everything that happens as the year progresses.”

The songs that comprise thomTide’s debut project will be released bi-weekly over the course of a year. If you take the analogy that the traditional LP or EP is like a “movie,” thomTide will be releasing a “TV show” of music, where a single is an episode and the seasons coincide with the seasons of the year: Autumn, Winter, Spring, and Summer.
