San Francisco duo the Dodos have premiered a video for the single “Competition” today, featured on their new album, Individ, which arrived last week on Dine Alone Records (Polyvinyl Records in USA/Morr Music in Europe). The video displays another side of Meric Long and Logan Kroeber, with feverish and expressive dance moves, choreographed by Katie Gaydos, and rehearsed over a two-month period.

Of the video, Long stated, “I knew that I wanted to have dance accompany the song, but I didn’t throw my name into the hat until I had exhausted all other options. Katie was super patient and flexible in adapting the choreography to our capabilities.” In relation to the song, “there’s a lot of warding off, or scraping away motions. The focus of the song is about one’s relationship to this feeling of competitiveness, its overwhelming-ness, how it can be consuming when it takes over your motives and your trying to get rid of it.”
